Margaret Gray Wood, MD

Margaret Gray Wood, M.D., graduated from Women's Medical College in 1948. She specialized in dermatolopathology and chaired the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania from 1984-1987. She also taught for several years at her alma mater (WMC/MCP). Her 3 daughters are also physicians.

In 1989, Dr Wood was honored by the Women's Dermatologic Association, sharing the Rose Hirschler Award with Dr Nancy Esterly, another distinguished academic dermatologist. She was for many years a trustee of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and of the Trust Fund of the Alumnae/i Association of WMC/MCP. Dr. Wood taught at her alma mater early in her career and always maintained strong ties with faculty and alumnae/i of the College, for which she was honored with the Alumni Service Award in 1996. She also supported the Margaret Gray Wood Collection in the library of the Women’s Health Education Program. The Dr. Margaret Gray Wood Award is presented each year to a student who has made significant contributions to alumnae/i student relations at the College.

Dr Wood passed away February 9, 2006, at her home in Philadelphia. Dr. Wood and her late husband, Alfred C. Wood, were the parents of Margaret Diana Wood, M.D., MCP ’87; Moira Dorothy Wood, M.D., MCP ’91; and Deirdre Wood-Harper, M.D., MCP ’96.
